So why have I included Drem Railway station. In both world wars the railway network was paramount. It connected most our air stations, army camps and naval bases with a massive network.
A pass could be written out in RAF Perranporth in Cornwall for an Erk (Aircraftsman First Class) to travel, probably via London to Drem. When being posted from the south to the north.
(Erk – old RAF nickname originating in the First World War; it started out as 'airk' (short for aircraft man), and came to mean any low or basic rank person or beginner).
Most RFC & RAF personnel would have passed through the station, to be picked up by either a pickup or a small lorry.
