RAF Long Marston, Communal.
RAF Long Marston due to the fact it was a bomber Operational Training Unit (OTU), it would have had a lot of Officers in training passing through. Most crews were Officers, so a large Officers Mess would have been needed. This was for their meals, rest, recreation, and socialising. A Mess was a home from home. white table cloths, soft leather comfy chairs to lounge in, nice fire places to sit around.

We were allowed access in 2004 now I am not too sure that many of the buildings are there, its about to be swallowed up under housing.

Offices Mess. There is a small serving hatch on the left to a kitchen. The wooden panelling, steel trusses. pelmets on the windows and the two tone colour scheme.
The mess serving hatch was not for full meals, but for snacks where stewards could cook up or make the odd sandwich.

Officers Mess note the pelmet on the window where curtains and a blackout blind would have been fitted. The colours although faded, these are the original colours.
Blackout blind: was a black roller blind that could be pulled down over the window to stop any light seeping out. This was an air-raid precaution. Another method was a wooden shutter that hooked into slots and had small wooden turn buttons to hold them on.

Officers Mess a very comfy rest room, I expect they even had slippers.
The RAF was very class-conscious and Officers had either a room on their own or to share with one other. A man servant (batman) between two to four Officers.
A comfortable Officers Mess to live in and dine.
Sergeants had to share rooms at four to a room, their own Mess, dinning and rest-room .
The men had to make do with a hut for about 10 or more and an institute, with hard chairs and tables, heated by stoves and not at all so cosy.

This is the toilet and possibly the rest room next door for the Motor Transport staff car drivers? They would be on call 24hours for senior Officers use only.
