RAF Wroughton Robins Hangars West

The two top Lamella hangars (circled in red) are the Science Museums Site and an unofficial viewing point is along the road past the Science Museums hangars and up to a reservoir. On the 19th August 1940 RAF Wroughton was attacked by the Luftwaffe and a D type hangar was damaged. Salthrop Farm was one of four dispersed Robin sites built after the attack to provide extra storage.

No. 1 Inside Robins Hangars West Quite a large area, built directly on the ground like a Blister hangar with concrete foundations for the legs and an earth floor. These hangars were to place smaller planes to work on or just store tools & equipment. It would have been very sparse out here, no hutting, toilets or canteen. Probably a mix of RAF and civilian personnel.
