Die06 Chateau de Dieppe

Die06 Château de Dieppe

West side of Dieppe, the castle (Château) and the cliff. A centre for the direction of artillery, with several peilstands (Fire Control Posts). Each probably in command of an inland batterie, of which there were several. After the attempted invasion in, Operation Jubilee in August 1942. Dieppe's defence was strengthened, in case it was ever to happen again. For the Allies, there was no plan to re attack any port, let alone Dieppe.

Die06 Château de Dieppe

Die06 Château de Dieppe
The castle was founded in 1188 by King Henry II of England, and was destroyed in 1195 by King Philip II of France. The site was restored in the 14th century. The castle was later in large part reconstructed in 1433 by Charles des Marets. The castle is composed of a quadrangular enclosure with round flanking towers and a lower court adjacent. The large west tower dates perhaps from the 14th century, and served as the keep. Several architectural styles are represented, and flint and sandstone are used in the buildings. A brick bastion and various other buildings have been added to the original enclosure. Wiki.
