Just on the les Arros side of Soulac-sur-Mer there are three bunkers that we found. Several more were removed in the 1960's.

This is what was left in 1962 the R637 measuring post, 2 x R621 group shelters, an R661 bunker for casualty assembly or casualty 'clearing station' and one Vf67 Tobruk.

R661 bunker for casualty assembly or 'casualty clearing station'. Its the same basic design as an R622 but the entrances corners are re shaped to allow stretchers to gain access easier.

It looks like the left side is for stretchers and the right side for walking wounded.

R661 bunker for casualty assembly or 'casualty clearing station'. Hinge for a gate a 491P2 Gittertür (Screen Door). A gate not a door, it can be closed off and an enemy would have to break in the gate, inside is a close combat defence embrasure with either a machine gun, rifle or pistol an shoot through the Gittertür.

Auguste Bartholdivery was commissioned to build the Statue of Liberty in New York but to help pay for it several smaller statues were made to raise the money and Bordeaux bought this one. The Germans tried to ship it back to Germany but it was lost on the railway and post war, found and placed at Soulac-sur-Mer.
