Dispersed away from the airfield is the Gas Decontamination & Station Sick Quarters.
After WW1 Gas attack was taken very seriously. Aeroplanes, vehicles and letterboxes had a
green gas detector paint. Gas sensitive paint would change from yellowish green to red in the presence of mustard gas.
There was the decontamination centre and a two ward hospital.

Gas Decontamination. The large block on the roof with an entrance was the 800gal water tank needed for the showers and toilets, the chimney is actually the clean air inlet (gas is heavier than air and sinks). So fresh air can be sucked in and circulated around the building. There was a smaller chimney for the heating plant, now missing.

A rough plan taken from 2452/40. This was a double, with men and womens entrances. Here there is only one entrance. A type I have never seen.
