StP84 Maisy - Batterie 'Brasilia', Part 2 A visit 2020
BATTERIE · K.V.U.Gruppe Vire · AOK 7 Normandy · France
StP84 Maisy - Batterie 'Brasilia', La Martinére
Two batteries set side by side (which is unusual) StP84 & StP83.
StP83 had four10cm le.F.H.14/19 Kannon and two 7.5cm F. K. 16n.Art. in three R612 casemates with a third under construction..

I made another visit on the 20 July 2020 and this is a record of the new bunkers uncovered.

R622 the Tobruk defence, a ring mounted machine gun could be fitted and the gunner/observer had a speaking tube to keep in contact with the inside of the bunker and could shout down and explain what is going on outside.

R622 this is the aerial slot, a specially designed bunker aerial fitted into the slot and could be extended or retracted as need be. Just because there is a slot, it does not mean that there was an aerial fitted. But in my mind, if there is an earthing strip in place. Then there was a probability that the aerial was fitted. You can just see a rusted earthing strip.

R622 left hand crew room. On the left is the gas filter shelf to hold spare filters, above the four square blocks are where the gas filter screwed to the wall and above the air filter pipes.

R622 back out and through the rubbish. A 434P01 door would have closed off the entrance here.

Inside the Tobruk. The square niche would have had a Sprachrohr speaking tube to connect with the inside of the bunker.

The left entrance and notice straight away how wide the entrance is compared to a normal bunker. This is to allow ammunition to be carried in and out.

The passage way to the two rooms, one behind the other. The floor was several inches in water so I could not get right in.

Inside the first room. I noticed that this room has a gas filtration system built in. That is not standard, so this bunker may have been designed as maybe a crew room and the second room an ammunition room.

The second passageway. I did not enter as it was full of Maisy towns glass and rubbish dumped there over the years. The door here was a 434P01 heavy steel door. It comes in two parts, top & bottom. A small window in the top door.

The view of the batterie and you can just see Utah Beach museum and the Red house.

This is the view that would have been seen from the watchtower of Utah Beach or Wn05 and they would have fired their four Kannons
on the beach.
