INFORMATION:

When I first took over there were only the three of us - myself (the mechanic) and two operators and we lived in a caravan. Towards the end of 1950 because of the escalating Cold War and Korea, all radar defences were upgraded. The Verne was reinforced for 24hour instead of 12 hour operation and a hut was hastily brought in from a local army camp. A sergeant fitter and six more operators were then installed. The sergeant had the caravan and the rest of us moved into the hut. From then on we were very busy.
