History : December 1942 and Charlton Horethorne was officially handed over to the Royal Navy as HMS Heron II and a satellite to RNAS Yeovilton. The main use of the airfield was the Fighter Direction School. Ground school was done at Yeovilton & flying at CH. The Oxford pretended to be bombers and the Fulmars fighters.
