Joyce explained how the church had been badly damaged during World War II when a German bomb fell in the churchyard close to the north wall. The restoration work was so skilfully done that it is hard to distinguish the old from the new. The style is a light hearted blend of Georgian and Gothic with some external parts dating from 1776.
