History : at the end of the war over 1000 aircraft were on charge at Aston Down.
1946 saw the 83 Gliding School here.

20 MU closed down and Aston was taken over by 5 MU Kemble in 1960 and the airfield was used by Central Flying School Kemble. By 1976 it was closed to the RAF and now an army unit and DFRA share the old camp and storage companies the hangars.
