Fe09 Côte de la Vierge

Fécamp east of Le Havre, another cleft in the cliff which was cut through by the river Valmont and later a port was created to accommodate a large fishing fleet. Very few defences can be seen in one easy view. Well here one is. By standing back, the whole defence runs up the cliff edge.

Fe09 Côte de la Vierge

Fécamp is a small fishing port and around WW2 it handled medium cargo boats. At the time of the proposed invasion of England, the port was to be used as an embarkation point. Later minesweeper and S boats used the port and it was defended by layers of defence Wn's. Fe09 covers the steep cliff side running down to the port.

Many bunkers still exist running up the hill with an R676 Skoda 4.7 Pak bunker at the bottom.

R610 battle HQ for strengthened company. This was the HQ bunker for Fe09. Phone cables would have run out to all the gun bunkers to direct the fire down on their targets.

There were four Vf/MG bunkers.

There were four Vf/MG bunkers. The range on machine guns that could have been used here were quite large. From MG09 WW1 water cooled type, to French ex Maginot line guns. To the latest Mg36 and Mg42's.

The flanking wall stops shell fire from the seaward side getting at the gun embrasure.

As we parked to look at the Skoda bunker this concrete guard post has been placed here, probably it was used around the docks area? A guard post that a guard could use in a bombing raid and protect him.
