Gi05 'Annaberg' Point Espagnol

The defence of the north side of the Gironde river starting at La Tremblade. The defences continued along the coast. We have now come to Gi03 code named 'Annaberg'.

1 x R627 artillery observation post with roof cover.

2 x R612 for assault gun F.K. 231.

1 x R622 twin group bunker. 6 x Vf58c Tobruk's.

1 x Vf69 mortar Tobruk.

1 x Vf67 FT17(f) tank turret.

1 x 4.7cm Pak 36.

1 x 2.5 cm Pak 112(f).

Gi05 is very easy to get to and in winter, parking is no problem, summer ? well very busy. A walk from the car park towards the sea and the first bunker is on the right.

Numbered R627/04 meaning its the fourth bunker in G105. Note the small square hole in the corner, this is the artillery spotters position and a steel plate would have covered it.

A steel plate over his head and enough room to possibly push your head and shoulders up to look out with binoculars or use a scissor binoculars and not stick your head out?

There was a large ex French batterie inland and this may have been used to control its fire in this area? But it may just have been used to direct these two guns in their casemates.

The rectangular concrete looks like a water trough of some kind. The only places I have found troughs, is on Flak sites. These were to cool down 2cm Flak barrels down.
