Portishead B-/2 HAA Gun Site, Bristol

Just inside the field is this small hut.

Portishead is situated on the north Somerset coast with its own small port facility. It sits next door to Avonmouth docks and in WW2 a very big petrochemical works. On the coast across the road from the AA site is Portishead fuel depot which this AA site would have defended.

The main road is the coast road from Clevedon to Portishead. On the crossroads is a bungalow which was the guard room, the blue P is where to park, the yellow circle is the AA site & the yellow square is one of three ammunition rooms.

On the coast you can see the fuel depot quite clearly. I think it had links with Wales via under water pipelines.

The site is a four gun battery with hard stands, ammunition rooms and a command post. Just to the south is the site of two ammunition rooms & one complete ammunition magazines.

Some times I wonder why I bother, from the air, the site looks interesting, but ground level. OHHHH!!!

Two barns are using the bases and one is still complete.

Just built of a large concrete breeze block and may have been covered in earth.

Heavily overgrown and filled with rubbish which I suppose has preserved this site!
