RAF Keevil, Wiltshire. Dispersed Sites Site No's. 8/9/10/12/13/14 & 15.

Dispersed sites to the west of the airfield. here I will cover 8/9/10/12/13/14 & 15. The reason the sites were dispersed, was due to earlier on in the war, when airfields were targeted and bombed. The 1920's/1930's expansion of the RAF, airfields were designed for all buildings to be close to the grass airfield. So when the runways and hangars were bombed, the barracks and communal sites were also hit and many killed and wounded. So the planners came up with the layout of spreading the barrack areas around the fields and using the farm tracks and roads to link with the airfield. The distances travelled sometimes were miles back and forwards. So bicycles were issued and so bike racks had to installed to store them around the sites. Buses were used also, to collecting and delivering around the sites. This went on 24hours a day.

Buildings either temporary brick (TB). N Nissen or, T&P which I think is Tar and paper. Plaster board covered in paper and tared over. Very effective and cheep to build on a wooden frame.
