Allowing the steel door to keep the occurrence safer from the explosion. The concrete and brick shelve would also protect the occurrence inside.

I have attached a larger picture of the stove area. This was set usually in the centre of the dinning room with a chimney surrounded by ovens and hot plates. All run by coal/coke fired. So some poor Erk or a civilian would have to keep the fires burning to the correct temperatures all day and night.

Site No.6 (W.A.A.F Communal) Dispersed Site No. 2 (W.A.A.F.) Communal, We tried to ask if we could photograph but two growling Sheep dogs said we could not. I did manage to take a few shots. This looks like accommodation, mostly Nissen huts.

Site No.5 230 - Sergeant, A/M's Ablutions & Drying room - TB - 16315/41. Dispersed Site No.5, this is a standard wartime airmen's ablutions and drying room hut with a Stanton air-raid shelter in front which has a porch covering its entrance. I have never seen a porch fitted before to a Stanton shelter. The hut is now lived in as a private house and half the field is a cemetery with burial's of a later date.

Centre of Winkleigh and I saw this old Garage with a nice Art deco design. Being an old garage owner I tend to look out for them. A very good history of RAF Winkleigh written by David Freeman.
