Wn164a Sickingen, M.K.B MIV Waringzelle

A batterie of three guns in two M270 casemates with a large Mammut radar set behind it. In the summer 1940 the Kriegsmarine installed 4 17cm average batteries between Waldam and Gris-Nez for the close defense of the Seelöwe Operation to attack Britain. This is one of the four M batteries, they were named “Coastal batteries M” of the Marine Artillery Abteilung 244. StP Waldam M.K.B MI. StP106 Dresden M.K.B. MII. Wn164a Sickingen, M.K.B. MIV.

'M' = Marine, 270 = the type number. Around 1943 two of the three open emplacements were casemated due to the orders of Hitler. By June 1944 two casemates had been made and the third gun was in its open pit.

This one you can see the tie down bolts in the concrete floor to hold the gun down. The two slits in the sides (I think) these were to place the barrel of the gun to give some protection when the casemate is being fired upon. The lid sticking out of the front would have had steel bands (now removed) and some times steel plates down each side.
