StP211 'Ibis' Wimereux

StP211 Ibis

This is the record of my visit on 28 April 2005, I have been informed that the R612 on the cliff may have fallen down since. My last visit to Wimereux was April 2018, but I did not venture up on the cliffs as we were only staying in the town. A lot had already fallen of in 2005.

Wimereux is just a few kilometer's north of Boulogne, Pas de Calais. A very pretty holiday seaside town. StP211 Ibis covers the eastern part of the town and along the cliff top. In the background of this picture you can see a railway viaduct and before Wimereux was captured, it was blown up. The small pictures below show the damage and the repairs.

A plan of where we walked, it covers some of both StP207 and StP211. Stp211 is the side of Wimereux from the river north and StP207 further along the cliffs around the Pointe Aux Oles.

This is a 1946 air photo of StP211 and all I can really see are the numerous trench systems. Most of these were not fighting trenches but communication trenches, getting from A to B safely.

DANGER: Up on the cliff edge is this bunker. It looks like a none standard type of observation?? As a Kriegsmarine Station for M.A.A. 240 and having a Würzburg Riese Fu.MO214 radar may have been fire direction for StP212 Kornweihe MKB Friedrich August. Friedrich August was a three gun batterie of 30.5cm guns that could reach England and also could shoot at shipping in the channel. They would also give fire details to the other batteries of M.A.A. 240 to the south and any Flak in the region.

Wellblech observation has unfortunately fallen in 2005 and on its side. This was where M.A.A. 240 would have used as a spotting station to watch for the enemy and the fall of shot and adjust the guns fire.
