A Dombunker was designed to store one or two K5 railway guns, huge 28cm barrel plus its long railway chassis with two six wheeled bogies.

Two types of high explosive projectile were used with the K5. The 28cm G35 weighed 255 kilograms (562 lb) and contained a charge of 30.5 kilograms (67 lb) of TNT. The 28cm Gr.39 m. Hbgr. Z. was slightly heavier, weighing 265 kilograms (584 lb) and containing around 44.5 kilograms (98 lb) of TNT (Wiki).

The railway guns arrived down into France from Germany in 1940 to protect the flanks of Operation Seelöwe. 1941 and with Operation Seelöwe cancelled, the guns had to go on the defensive and help cover this part of the Atlantikwall and Dombunker's were made to protect the guns. Before the Canadians arrived to capture this part of France in 1944, the guns were withdrawn to Germany.

Vögel Turntable was a portable turntable that could be carried with the gun on railway trucks and assembled where it was needed. The gun was pushed up a ramp onto a railway turntable base and could turn 360°.

Railways station at Baston N/E of Wimereux. There is a large Luftschutzbunker (air-raid) bunker at the station.

This is an air raid shelter set down by the old railway station and a level crossing on the main line and the old railway turned left and through a small valley rising up to the Dombunker. Quite a pull for an engine.
