RAF Davidstow Moor Site No.19 Water Pumping Station.

RAF Davidstow Moor, Site No.19 Water Pumping Station.

A 1940's RAF airfield would have needed a lot of water, all the quarters latrines and ablutions, Then all the Officers, Sergeants mess's and the Airmens Institute. Then the airfield site, with all its water needing building. MT, latrines, engine houses, etc, etc. So water needed to be found, pumped, stored. First the Davidstow ancient well was found and used with a pump pushing water into a ground based Braithwaite water tank, then it would be sent out to the Braithwaite water towers on the dispersed sites. From them gravity took the water to all the buildings that needed water.

Stanton Air-Raid shelter slightly up hill by the farm. This shelter I do not think it was ever covered in earth and it just shows the airfield planners even gave whoever was down here working, air-raid protection. I have said this is a Stanton shelter, but it may be a Richard Costain type.
